1. Philosophy
SportMetrix is designed with a clear philosophy: your data is yours and nobody else's. The app works locally on your device and does not require registration or an account to function.
2. Data stored on your device
All information generated by SportMetrix is stored exclusively on your device:
- GPS tracks and recorded routes
- Activity metrics (distance, speed, pace, heart rate, cadence, power, elevation, calories, temperature)
- Activity history and statistics
- App settings and user profile
None of this data is sent to external servers unless you expressly choose to through one of the integrations described below.
3. Data we do NOT collect
SportMetrix does not collect, store or transmit:
- Personal identification data
- Usage analytics or statistics
- Advertising identifiers
- Device information beyond what is strictly necessary for the app to function
4. Third-party integrations
SportMetrix allows you to voluntarily connect your account with external platforms. These integrations are always optional and initiated by you.
4.1 Strava
If you choose to connect your Strava account, SportMetrix uses the official Strava API with OAuth 2.0 authentication. This means:
- You authorize the connection directly through Strava's official login screen
- SportMetrix never accesses or stores your Strava password
- Only access tokens are stored on your device
- The connection allows SportMetrix to: read your Strava activities, upload recorded activities to Strava, and sync names and metadata
- Strava data is used exclusively within SportMetrix and is never shared with third parties
- You can revoke access at any time from Strava settings (Settings → My Apps) or from within SportMetrix
- If you disconnect Strava, all Strava data downloaded to your device will be deleted
The Strava integration complies with the Strava API Agreement.
4.2 MisRutas.net
If you choose to connect your misrutas.net account, authorization happens through the portal's official sign-in. This means:
- You authorize the connection directly on the misrutas.net sign-in screen
- SportMetrix never accesses or stores your portal password; only access tokens are stored on your device
- The connection allows SportMetrix to: read your portal routes, upload workouts choosing public or private visibility and difficulty, download full tracks, and sync name and description
- Portal data is used exclusively within SportMetrix and is never shared with third parties
- You can disconnect the account at any time from SportMetrix or from misrutas.net
If you attach photos when uploading a route, only the ones you pick (up to three) are sent: they are resized and their metadata (including location) is removed before upload.
4.3 Garmin Connect
If you choose to connect your Garmin account, sign-in happens on Garmin's own official page inside the app (two-step verification supported). This means:
- You enter your credentials only on Garmin's page; SportMetrix never accesses or stores your password
- Only session tokens are stored on your device
- The connection allows SportMetrix to: read your Garmin Connect activities, download their tracks on demand, upload recorded activities, and sync name and description
- Garmin data is used exclusively within SportMetrix and is never shared with third parties
- You can disconnect the account at any time from SportMetrix
5. Live position sharing
When you activate the live position sharing feature, your real-time GPS coordinates are sent to a temporary server so people with the link can follow your route live. This data is not stored permanently and is deleted when the session ends.
5.1 Sharing a route by ID
If you choose to share one of your routes with a 6-digit ID, its GPX file (GPS track, elevation and sensor data) and its name are uploaded to the same temporary server so that whoever has the ID can import the route into SportMetrix or open it on design.misrutas.net. The route is only reachable by knowing the ID: it is never published, listed or indexed anywhere. It is deleted automatically once the period you chose expires (between 1 and 30 days), or immediately if you stop sharing it from the app.
6. Altitude correction
To correct GPS altitude inaccuracies, SportMetrix sends your route coordinates to an altimetry service based on Copernicus DEM data. No personal data is sent, only geographic coordinates.
7. Device permissions
SportMetrix only requests strictly necessary permissions:
- Location (GPS) — to record routes and activities while you use the app
- Background location — to keep recording your route when the screen is off or the app is minimized during a recording you started yourself (see section 7.1)
- Bluetooth — to connect heart rate monitors, cadence and speed sensors
- Camera (optional) — only if you use waypoint photos; it opens only when you tap the photo button and the images are stored on your device
- Storage — to save and import GPX, FIT, TCX and KML files, and to save copies of your photos to the gallery
- Notifications — to show the current recording status
- Internet — for live sharing, altitude correction and third-party integrations
Camera access is optional and only used if you take photos on your routes. We never request access to microphone, contacts, calendar or other unrelated permissions.
7.1 Background location (ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION)
SportMetrix requests the background location permission (ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION) so it can keep recording your GPS track when the app is minimized or the screen is off. Without this permission, tracks would stop being recorded as soon as the screen turns off, which would make the app unusable for real training sessions.
How background location is used:
- Background location is only accessed while you have an activity recording that you started yourself and that is currently in progress. When you are not recording, SportMetrix does not access your background location.
- Location data is stored exclusively on your device as part of the activity track. It is never sent to any SportMetrix server.
- Background location is never shared with third parties unless you voluntarily enable the live position sharing feature, or manually upload the activity to Strava or another integration.
- SportMetrix does not sell, rent or transfer location data to advertisers, data brokers or any other third party.
- Background location is not used for advertising, analytics, profiling or any purpose other than recording your sports route.
Before requesting this permission, SportMetrix shows an in-app disclosure dialog explaining this use. You can continue with the request or refuse it, and you can revoke the permission at any time from Android settings → Apps → SportMetrix → Permissions → Location.
8. Your rights under GDPR
If you reside in the European Union, you have the right to:
- Access the data SportMetrix holds about you
- Delete your data (by removing backups or uninstalling the app)
- Data portability (by exporting in GPX/FIT/TCX)
- Withdraw consent for any integration at any time
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you exercise these rights directly from within the app. For data shared with Strava, Garmin or MisRutas.net, you should also manage your rights directly with those platforms.
9. Data transfers
SportMetrix does not transfer your data to third countries except in the following cases:
- Strava, Inc. is based in the United States. Data transfers are covered by Strava's own privacy policy
- Garmin Ltd. operates primarily from the United States. Transfers are covered by Garmin's own privacy policy
- misrutas.net is hosted in the European Union
- The Copernicus elevation service operates within the EU
- Our own servers (live sharing and route sharing by ID) are hosted in the European Union. SportMetrix is available worldwide, so if you use the app from outside the EU that data is sent to and processed on EU-based servers
10. Children's data
SportMetrix is not intended for children under 13.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes to this privacy policy — especially changes affecting how your data is shared or used — we will notify you through the app. Minor updates will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
